Mew2King
Jason “Mew2King” Zimmerman is the oldest of the Five Gods and has the longest active career. He is known for creating the first statistics list of Melee in 2003 on Smashboards. In 2005 during the Golden Age he began competing actively and was a top player on the 2006 Major League Gaming Pro Circuit - finishing 4th at the National Championships. Since then he was been a consistent threat to win any tournament he enters and has had several stints as the unrivaled world’s best Melee player. Mew2King still competes and streams in 2020.

Mango
Joseph “Mango” Marquez shocked the Smash community by taking 3rd place at EVO 2007 including upsetting Mew2King who many considered the best player at the time. After winning the majors Pound 3 in 2008 and Revival of Melee in 2009 he joined an elite group of players considered among the best in the World. Since then Mango has consistently dominated the Melee scene and has one of the largest fan bases - the ‘Mango Nation’. He is one of the most passionate players of Melee and continues to compete and stream in 2020.

Armada
Adam “Armada” Lindgren became a top European player during the end of the Golden Age in 2008 before eventually becoming the undisputed best player in Europe by 2011. He was widely considered the world’s best player during parts of the Platinum Age and his back-and-forth rivalry with Mango created many of the best moments in Melee history. In 2018 Armada announced he was retiring from Melee singles but would still compete in doubles with his brother, Android. Today Armada is a variety streamer on Twitch.

Kevin “PPMD” Nanney began playing Melee near the end of the Golden Age in 2007 and his breakout tournament was Revival of Melee 2 in November 2009 where he placed 2nd behind Hungrybox and ahead of Mango. PPMD continued to win major tournaments through the Platinum Age of Smash as one of the five gods until taking a hiatus in 2016.

Juan “Hungrybox” Debiedma rose to prominence during the Dark Age in 2009. At Revival of Melee in March 2009 he took 7th, beating top Golden Age player KoreanDJ. 6 months later Hungrybox won Revival of Melee 2 and then continued to win or place top 3 in nearly every major tournament until 2020. During this decade long streak he has been considered the best player in the world for several stretches. Hungrybox still competes and streams in 2020.

Leffen
William “Leffen” Hjelte began playing Melee in 2009 and quickly rivaled some of the best in Europe. By 2013 Leffen was considered the second best player in Europe after Armada and soon began entering US tournaments to challenge the Five Gods. At Apex 2014 Leffen defeated his first of the Five Gods of Melee and over the next two years would earn the title of “God Slayer” for his success. In 2018 Leffen won EVO and cemented his status as one of the World’s best Melee players. In 2020 Leffen still enters Melee tournaments and regularly streams on Twitch.
